The Math Academy Story & Philosophy

David Y. founded Math Academy in 2007 three and half years ago on his love for math and his passion for one-on-one teaching and mentorship. Of Russian or the Former Soviet Union roots, David had the privilege of being mentored by teachers and professors who not only commanded thorough knowledge of their subject areas but had the cultural desire to pass their knowledge unto their students. At Math Academy, we are aware of the shortcomings of the education system that often presents math and science material in a shallow and gimmick-oriented approach. David and the tutors at Math Academy are inspired by a thorough and detail-oriented approach to learning maths, and sough to emulate within Math Academy the deeper, more comprehensive style of teaching. At Math Academy we understand the importance of personal tutoring and customized educational solutions that are tailored to the student’s needs. There is great value and beauty in learning math and science, so we first make sure our students understand the essence of a topic. Then we move on to developing problem solving skills and test taking strategies.

When the teaching and learning process is a mutual, ongoing conversation and exploration between two people, the experience becomes more meaningful and ingrained to the student, who is able to take strong ownership of the material. Teachers who schooled David enabled him to understand the value of math, both on a pure and applied level. It's this experience that he currently seeks to offer students of the Math Academy.
